My name is Whitney Tangaroa. I became involved with the Wanganui Youth Committee in 2006 through the Make It Take It Project where I worked alongside a team of other enthusiastic young people who wanted to make a change in the community, providing fun and entertainment for youths between the ages of 16-20 by coming up with Wanganui’s first ‘rave’. In 2007 I became an active youth committee member, and have stood as one of the two deputy co-chair positions for the past two years.

One thing which encouraged me to sign up was the demand for more activities for youth around Wanganui during the weekends. However, since being on the Youth Committee I have learnt so much more than I ever anticipated. For the past 6 years which I have been involved with the Youth Committee, I feel that I have become a strong advocate for youth in Wanganui with a passion for youth and creating positive changes for youth in our community. I think that the Youth Committee has done grown so much from when it first started, and believe it still has so much growing to do, every year just keeps getting better.
