What should I do if there is a Civil Defence emergency? When disaster occurs, follow these simple rules: 1. Listen and remain tuned to the nearest operating radio station serving your community. Carry out any instructions given. You will need a transistor radio if the power is off. 2. Do not use your telephone for anything less than saving lives, otherwise the telephone exchanges will be overloaded and emergency services will be affected. 3. Talk to your neighbours to see if you can help each other. 4. Don't go sightseeing - you will hinder essential work or traffic, and endanger yourself. 5.
