Expressions of interest
The Wanganui District Council calls for expressions of interest in respect of an area of 18 hectares, more or less, with access off Mosston Road. The area would be suitable for grazing but requires improvement to pastures by clearing lupin, mulching, spraying and regrassing of some areas. Fences require stock proofing and water supply needs to be developed either from an existing well or by connection to Rogers Street. Horses and pig farming excluded. Summary of Submissions Available and Call for Further Submissions to Proposed Plan Change 14 - Rezoning of 9 Birch Place Public notice is hereby given in accordance with clause 7 of the First Schedule of the Resource Management Act 1991 (The Act) that the Wanganui District Council has prepared a summary of submissions made to: Proposed Plan Change 14: Rezoning of 9 Birch Place Copies of all the submissions received and a summary of the decisions requested by submitters to the proposed Plan Change are available for public inspection, during normal working hours, at the Customer Service Desk, Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, and at the District Library, Queens Park, Wanganui. The Wanganui District Council now invites further written submissions in support of, or in opposition to, those submissions already made. Further submissions may only be in support of, or in opposition to, submissions already made to the proposed Plan Change 14. Further submissions must be in writing, and be in the prescribed form, which is available from the Wanganui District Council, and addressed to: Wanganui District Council The last day for further submissions in support of, or opposition to, those submissions already made is 4.00pm, Friday, 19 December 2008. Note: Following the close of further submissions, if required, the Wanganui District Council will then hold a Hearing of the submissions. All persons who make a submission or further submission and who requested to be heard will be advised of the date, time and place of the Hearing. The Council will then make decisions on the submissions and further submissions. Any submitter or further submitter may refer the decision on their submission to the Environment Court. Temporary road closure
Whanganui City Bridge Pursuant to the Tenth Schedule of the Local Government Act 1974, the Wanganui District Council has resolved to close the Whanganui City Bridge from Taupo Quay to Anzac Parade on Sunday, 7 December 2008, from 6.00am to 1.00pm to permit safe spectator viewing of the Billy Webb Centennial Challenge rowing event. |
Temporary road closure
Roberts Avenue from 136 Roberts Avenue to Paterson Street intersection (Contractor Tenix (Powerco) Ltd) Weather permitting, Roberts Avenue from Rural No. 136 to Paterson Street intersection will be closed between 9.00am and 11.30am and 12 noon and 2.00pm on Thursday, 11 December 2008, for the purpose of replacing two high voltage power poles. If wet weather prevents work at these times, the work will be carried out on Friday, 12 December 2008, or a date to be advertised in 2009. The site will be controlled and motorists will be guided through when the crane is not in operation. A signposted detour will not be provided. |

Whanganui River Road Whanganui River Road will be closed to through traffic between Jerusalem and Pipiriki on Wednesday, December 10, between 8.00am and 4.00pm. Culverts will be replaced as part of upgrading the road for sealing. |

Public notice of the right to demand a poll on the electoral system for the Wanganui District Council
Notice is given under Section 28 (1) of the Local Electoral Act 2001 that electors of the Wanganui District Council have the right to demand a poll on the electoral system to be used for the 2010 triennial elections of the Wanganui District Council. The Wanganui District Council resolved on 2 September 2008 to continue with the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system for the 2010 election, unless a poll determines otherwise. The Local Electoral Act 2001 provides for the choice between the First Past the Post (FPP) and Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral systems. A valid demand for a poll must be:
Section 30 (3) of the Local Electoral Act states that every elector who signs a demand must also set out their name and the address for which they are qualified as an elector of the Wanganui District Council. |

Ratepayers need to apply to the Wanganui District Council for a rates rebate. Those who are eligible will then either have their rates reduced by the amount of the rebate, or receive a refund if the rates have been paid in full for the year. The Department of Internal Affairs reimburses the Council from Crown funds. |
