Community to have its say next week
![]() Community opinions on the Council's draft 10-Year, Annual and Service Management plans will be considered next week. This year the Council has received 220 written submissions, compared with 88 written submissions last year. Thirty-seven hotline submissions have been received. Kerbside recycling is the dominant issue in this year's submissions. The Strategy Committee meets on Tuesday, May 21, to begin considering public submissions to the plans. Sixty-eight individuals and organisations will speak about their submissions on Tuesday, May 21, Wednesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 23. A large part of Tuesday's meeting will be devoted to hearing submissions about recycling. The following week the Strategy Committee will consider the remaining written submissions before councillors make their final decisions on the plans. Members of the public are welcome to attend the Strategy Committee meeting. It begins at 9am on Tuesday, May 21, in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Office Building, 101 Guyton Street. The Committee will finalise the plans the following week, with meeting days allocated for May 28-30. |

Revaluation of Wanganui District
All properties within Wanganui District are due to be revalued this year. QV Rating started work in the District with the questionnaire sent out to owners earlier in the year and they are now involved in gathering market information and analysing property sales to determine value levels of the various properties within each locality. The local manager of QV, Dave Robertson, said it is a large task revaluing a District the size of Wanganui. There are 20,000 properties to be valued ranging from lifestyle blocks to large farm properties, and corner dairies to the freezing works. There are 15,300 residential properties in the District, 1200 commercial and industrial, and 2500 lifestyle and rural properties. Dave Robertson said they have had a huge response to the questionnaire sent earlier in the year and this information will be collated and used in assessing individual property values. Real estate agents report an increased level of activity in the Wanganui property market over the last few months and although this has lead to an increase in the number of sales taking place, it has had little influence on price levels. Generally speaking, residential properties are selling at close to or just below their existing rateable value. Well maintained and nicely presented properties continue to sell well with poorer properties showing some weakness. This is a trend common in much of the country apart from a few areas such as parts of Auckland, Tauranga, Queenstown and Wanaka where the market is very strong. The rural real estate market continues to be very buoyant with sales occurring well above the level of three years ago. Owners will receive their new valuations in late September. |
