E-mail is an increasingly popular way of contacting the Council.

Many people are using our customer service e-mail address - wdc@wanganui.govt.nz - to get the information they need.

If you look around our web site you'll see that it includes e-mail contact details for various Council responsibilities, so you can directly e-mail the appropriate department. Have a look at the Contact Us page for more details.

The site also contains a number of forms which can either be filled in online, or printed and posted back to us. These include the Council's FixiT form for maintenance problems and a "have your say" form which can be used to give comments and feedback on Council issues. You can access the forms via the Contact Us page or the Publications page.

Invitation to prospective candidates

NOTICE OF ELECTION, NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES, AND CLOSING DATE FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE WANGANUI DISTRICT COUNCIL 2001 ELECTIONS


Under Section 52 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I hereby give notice that on Saturday, the 13th day of October 2001, the following elections will be held under the First Past the Post electoral system by postal vote.

Mayor - For the Wanganui District
Wanganui Urban Ward - The election of nine Councillors
Wanganui Rural Ward - The election of three Councillors
Wanganui Rural Ward Community Board - The election of six Members

Nominations of candidates must be in the hands of the Electoral Officer, Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui not later than noon on the 24th day of August 2001.

Each candidate must be nominated on the nomination paper obtainable from the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui, which must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 GST inclusive, which may be paid by cheque, cash or eftpos.

A candidate may submit a candidate profile statement with their nomination paper for sending out with the voting documents to electors. A Candidate Information Pack available with the nomination form outlines the rules and procedures governing candidate profile statements and conflict of interest statements.

The electoral roll to be used for the election
(a) closes on 31 August 2001 at 4 pm
(b) can be inspected at

1. Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui
2. Each New Zealand Post Ltd postal outlet within the Local Government area
3. Wanganui District Library, Queens Park, Wanganui.

Following closure of the roll, the Electoral Officer may, on application of any person who is or claims to be entitled to be enrolled or any other person or otherwise, make any necessary corrections to the names, addresses, occupations, abbreviations or marks appearing in the electoral roll.

The Wanganui District Council has resolved under section 79, of the Local Electoral Act 2001, to process voting documents before the close of voting.

Cancellation - Regulatory Committee Meeting

The meeting of the Regulatory Committee scheduled for 2.00pm on Thursday, 26 July 2001, is cancelled as there is insufficient business to transact. The items have been forwarded to the Works and Transport Committee meeting to be held on Tuesday, 31 July 2001.

Road Closure

Notice of Proposed Temporary Road Closure to Vehicular Traffic
[Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965]

The Wanganui Car Club, for the purpose of a hill climb event, proposes to close Matarawa Valley Road and Union Line, from Fordell Sale Yards to the top of Union Line by No. 2 Line, on Sunday, 2 September 2001 from 10.00am until 5.00pm.

During the closure, provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Matarawa Valley Road and Union Line.

Any person objecting to the proposed road closure should lodge notice of his/her objections and grounds thereof in writing before 5 August 2001 at the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.

Notice of Proposed Temporary Road Closure to Vehicular Traffic
[Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965]

The Wanganui Car Club, for the purpose of a hill climb event, proposes to close Rangitatau East Road from 2km before Junction Road to 4km past Junction Road on Saturday, 1 September 2001 from 9.00am until 6.00pm.

During the closure, provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Rangitatau East Road.

Any person objecting to the proposed road closure should lodge notice of his/her objections and grounds thereof in writing before 4 August 2001 at the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.



Amendment to Wanganui Bylaw
Part 23: Traffic

The Wanganui District Council hereby gives notice that it intends to amend the above By-law.

Special Order

THAT the Wanganui District Council, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in it by the Local Government Act 1974 and its amendments, and all other acts, powers and authorities enabling it, resolves by way of Special Order to amend "Wanganui District Bylaw 1995 Part 23, Traffic".

The purpose of the amendment is to prohibit the hire of vehicles parked in or on any road or public place.

AND THAT the amendment come into effect on, and as from, 15 August 2001.

Public Inspection

Copies of the Special Order will be available for public inspection at the Help Desk, Ground Floor, Municipal Office Building, during working days between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm weekdays and at the District Library during its opening hours
