At Your Service - Parking
The Council maintains off-street car parks and a network of on-street meters and time restricted areas, which are monitored by parking officers. Off-street car park spaces are provided in the following locations: Kingsway (51), Firestone (73), Winstones (58) and Opera House (20) in St Hill Street, 2ZW (28) in Guyton Street, Phoenix (18), Drews Avenue (8), Wharenui (25) and Regent (18) in Ingestre Street, Museum (59) and Footlab (44) in Drews Avenue. Most off-street car parks are sealed, marked, have a minimum of security lighting and are sign posted. Firestone, Winstone, Wharenui and Phoenix parks have 'pay and display' machines installed. There are 371 kerbside metered parking spaces and 1124 time restricted areas around the Central City area. These are monitored to ensure regular turnover and availability of spaces. Offenders are ticketed, fined and followed up. Suburban shopping centres are serviced on demand. Wardens police the car parks from 8.30am to 5.30pm weekdays and 9.30am to 12.30pm Saturdays. The service also provides traffic control and temporary signs for special events such as marches, street parades and market days. The parking service is funded from fines, meter and rental revenue. Trade seminar - information evening The Council invites members of the building/plumbing/designing trades to an informative evening. It will be held on Wednesday, 28 January 2004, from 5.15pm to approximately 6.30pm in the Civil Defence Headquarters, 3rd Floor at Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.
