Special Order
To Adopt Infringement Notice Provisions for Littering in the Wanganui District

The Wanganui District Council, at its Ordinary Meeting on Monday, 15 December 2003, resolved: That the Council proceeds under Section 13(2) of the Litter Control Act 1979 to adopt by way of a 'Special Order', infringement notices for the following litter offences:
A person who without reasonable excuse -

(a) Deposits any litter in or on any public place or, in the case of any private land, in or on that private land without the consent of its occupier, or
(b) Having deposited any litter (whether inadvertently or otherwise) in or on any public place, or in or on any private land without the consent of its occupier, leaves the litter there

And that those infringement offences carry an infringement fee of $100.00 each.

Reason
The introduction of infringement notices will assist in litter control within the Wanganui District. Infringement notices are used within other regulatory activities such as Resource Management, Building Control and Animal Control and provide a quick, inexpensive method to enforce and deter inappropriate behaviour.

It is intended to confirm the Special Order at the Ordinary Meeting of the Wanganui District Council on Monday, 16 February 2004. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui, commencing at 2.00pm.

Copies of the Council resolution are available for public inspection at the Customer Services Desk, ground floor, Municipal Building, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui, and at the Public Library, Queens Park, Wanganui, during normal opening hours.

Water conservation - hose code and sprinkler code

Water Services thanks the people of Wanganui for the conservation effort made to date that has ensured sufficient water supplies for all water users.

Everyone is reminded that sprinklers can only be used on even numbered days for even numbered houses and odd numbered days for odd numbered houses, between the hours of 6pm and 10pm. Hand held hoses can be used at any time.

The best water results for the garden are achieved from watering in the early evening.
