Issue No. 169 - 28 August 2004
Wastewater discharge to the Whanganui River

Recreational users are advised of potential health risks arising from the discharge of wastewater to the Whanganui River.

Under the coastal permits issued for the wastewater project, the Wanganui District Council is required to regularly inform the public of these potential risks.

At present, the existing combined sewer and stormwater system overflows and discharges wastewater into the Whanganui River during periods of rain. However, this overflow will be eliminated progressively as sewage is removed from stormwater systems on both private and public property throughout urban Wanganui.

Property owners are reminded that all sewage must leave their property in a separate pipe that contains no stormwater by the following dates:

Wanganui East/Bastia Hill
1 July 2003

1 July 2004
St John's, Durie Hill, Springvale and Putiki

Building Consent Completions

If you have completed any building work during the last 10 years then it is important that you have the work "signed off" as finished.

"Signed off" work is issued a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) at completion to say that it complied with the Building Code at the time of inspection.

Having a CCC for your property assists in the sale process (eventually everybody sells their house) - and banks and insurance companies like them too.

To book a final building/plumbing inspection please contact Customer Services on 349 0001 and arrange a suitable time.

Temporary road closure
Whangaehu Valley Road

(Contractor: Works Infrastructure Ltd)

Road stabilisation works to Whangaehu Valley Road between 1-2km are programmed to commence shortly.

These works are likely to last for approximately six weeks from Monday, 16 August 2004, to Wednesday, 22 September 2004, and for safety reasons will entail road closures during specific phases of the excavation work.

During these specific phases of the works, Whangaehu Valley Road is likely to be closed between 7.00am and 5.30pm. It is acknowledged that these closures will create significant inconvenience to local residents and, in order to minimise this, the road will be opened for traffic between 9.00am to 9.30am and 3.00pm to 3.30pm every day.

Provision will be made for emergency vehicles.

Your co-operation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

The specific dates for the road closure will be advised in due course.

The Council regrets any inconvenience caused.

Notice of proposed temporary road closure to vehicular traffic
[Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965]

The Wanganui Car Club, for the purpose of a hill climb event, proposes to close Okoia Hill Road from Matarawa Valley Road to No. 2 Line on Sunday, 26 September 2004, from 9.00am to 6.00pm.

During the closure, provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Okoia Hill Road.

Any person objecting to the proposed road closure should lodge notice of his/her objections and grounds thereof in writing before 29 August 2004 at the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.
