At Your Service - Resource Management, Building We provide resource management, building
and health control
How this service is provided Building control: The Council
provides for safe buildings through issuing and inspecting about 1200
building consents per year. Building work is made to comply with national
standards, with action taken against substandard work. All of the District's
building records are securely held. Service standards
Note: Environmental Services, as outlined above, are available through the Council's front counter and telephone services from 8am to 5pm on weekdays. After hours services are available through the Council's after hours telephone service; however, response is determined by the urgency of the problem. Monitoring the service
Cost For building control the average ratepayer pays $10 per year. Building
consent costs are charged at actual costs ($65 per hour) which depend
on the complexity of the construction, and how many inspections are

Road works - Bason Botanic Gardens Work on the road at Bason Botanic Gardens is taking longer than expected due to the weather and unforeseen events. Kerbing and sealing work is being done from the entrance to the Gardens to the top of the hill. The road is still open most of the time but there may be some minor inconvenience for traffic. However, if there is heavy rain, the road may be closed to traffic. The Gardens remain open as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience. Wanganui District Council Holiday Services The following are the closures for the Wanganui District Council for the 2001/2002 Christmas and New Year Holiday period. Normal after hours phone numbers will be operating. Municipal Office Building The Municipal Office Building will close at 3.00pm on Monday, 24 December and will re-open on Thursday, 27 December through to, and including, Monday, 31 December 2001. The opening hours will be 8.00am to 5.00pm. The building will then close at 5.00pm on Monday, 31 December 2001 to Wednesday, 2 January 2002 inclusive. Normal opening hours of 8.00am to 5.00pm will resume on Thursday, 3 January 2002. Normal opening hours of 9.00am - 8.00pm will resume on Monday, 7 January 2002. The Mobile Library will operate until Friday, 21 December 2001 and resume again on Monday, 7 January 2002. Memorial Hall Booking Office Whanganui Regional Museum Tuesday, 25 December - CLOSED Whanganui Regional Museum Archives closes at 1.00pm on Friday, 21 December 2001, and will reopen at 10.00am on Thursday, 3 January 2002. Archives are closed on weekends and public holidays. Usual hours of operation are 10.00am - 1.00pm, Monday to Friday. Refuse Collection - Christmas/New Year 1. Rural Bag and Recyclables Collection The collection days remain the same. There will be rural bag and recyclables collections on Christmas and Boxing Days and New Year's Day and the day after New Year's Day, and the other days over the Christmas/New Year period. Please note that the provision of this service will be reviewed by the Wanganui Rural Community Board and the Council during consideration of the 2002/2003 Annual Plan. Urban Recyclables and Refuse Collections a) Waste Management NZ Ltd The Waste Management NZ Ltd help telephone number is 348 8009. b) Budget Waste Instead, Budget Waste customers normally serviced on Tuesday, 25 December 2001, will be serviced on Monday, 24 December 2001. The normal Budget Waste collection service applies on Boxing Day, New Year's Day, the day after New Year's Day, and the other days over the Christmas/New Year period.
