Come, run with the stars

Mayoral Mile logoDick QuaxAt the Mayoral Mile on Saturday, March 17, you're invited to mix with some very elite and much celebrated company on the hallowed ground of Cooks Gardens.

Former world record holder, Manukau City Councillor and 1500 metre Olympic silver medallist Dick Quax (top right) is back.

So too is the elite men's winner from last year, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nick Willis (centre right).

Former Commonwealth Games gold medal winnerNick Willis Dick Tayler (bottom right) will also be jogging – slowly – along with Norm Hewitt (left), former All Black and dancing star.

Add to the mix some current world class athletes, a number of Mayors and other celebrities and you'll be running with the famous and familiar, including some of the celebrities from this year's TVNZ 'Dancing with the Stars'.

All you have to do is run, jog or walk a mile – 1.6 kilometres or four laps of Cooks Gardens.

National Bike Wise Mayoral Challenge

Mayor Michael Laws and Mayoress Leonie will be leading the way in the National Bike Wise Mayoral Challenge at Springvale Park.

This event is being held in 23 centres around the country this Sunday, March 4, as part of National Bike Wise Week and incorporated with National Children’s Day. City mayors lead off, and the city that has the most cyclists following behind will win the title of New Zealand’s Cycle Mad City 2007.

Plus there are loads of spot prizes to be won!

Wanganui people of all ages are encouraged to take part. Meet at Springvale Park (GF Moore Drive entrance) at 10.15am.

Rates rebates

Remember that you can apply for a rates rebate at any time during the 2006/07 rating year. The income threshold is $20,000. A rebate of up to $500 can be claimed.

Before we can process your application, we need to see:

  • Your Community Services Card.
  • Evidence of all income (before tax) for last tax year (this includes income from interest, pensions etc).
  • Your Wanganui District Council rates notice for 2006/07 and your Horizons Regional Council rates notice for 2006/07.

Eligibility for a rates rebate is determined by:

  • The ratepayer’s income for the tax year preceding the start of the rating year and
  • The amount of rates and
  • The number of dependents.
