Issue No. 441 - 19 November 2009
Santa & Butcher Boys joining forces for Christmas Parade

The 2009 Wanganui Christmas Parade gets under way at 1.00pm on Saturday, November 21, with a number of very special guests.

Santa will be joined by an array of floats and Wanganui's rugby heroes, Steelform Wanganui. Come along and congratulate our team on winning the Meads Cup for the second year running.

Wanganui District Council will be promoting "a family friendly community" as part of the parade. Look out for our family friendly crew who will be giving out lollies and other goodies during the parade. The littlies will enjoy our animal section, featuring the Animal Control team, some live animals and animal characters. Wanganui's official web portal Wanganui.com will be part of our float and the Rural Fire truck will be there too.

The parade starts in Ingestre Street and will travel down Victoria Avenue to Taupo Quay.

After the parade, the Butcher Boys and invited guests will attend a special civic function where Mayor Michael Laws will renew their Freedom of the City, bestowed after the team won the Heartland championship last year.

Maritime New Zealand is responsible for navigation safety on waterways in a number of regions throughout the North and South Islands and welcomes any suggestions you might have, or information you could provide, that would improve navigation safety in this region.

Infrastructure bonds
Attention: all builders, building applicants and designers

The Wanganui District Council has significant infrastructure assets in the road corridor. Damage to those assets comes at a cost to the ratepayer of Wanganui.

The Wanganui District Council has introduced an infrastructure bond of $1500 for all Building and/or Resource Consents in relation to demolition, removal and relocation of dwellings and the construction of new dwellings. The enforcement of this infrastructure bond will become effective from Monday, 30 November 2009.

The $1500 bond is refundable at the completion of the work on the proviso that no damage has been done, or any damage that has been done has been repaired to the Council's standards. In addition to the bond, a non-refundable $200 inspection and administration fee will be charged per application.

Companies with multiple house consents may apply to the Wanganui District Council's Chief Executive to have their bonds reviewed. If granted, the applicant must fill out an Acceptance of Liability form to cover the sites that a bond has not been taken for. The non-refundable $200 inspection and administration fee will still apply (for each application).

Infrastructure bond forms will be available from the Customer Services desk in the main Council Building. These forms will be filled out in conjunction with a Building Consent or Resource Consent.
