Somme Parade Pavement Rehabilitation and Safety Improvements project
Road works on Somme Parade between Gloucester Street and Barrack Street Road works are programmed to commence in Somme Parade between Gloucester Street and Barrack Street from 18 October 2010 for an estimated period of four months. The road works are necessary to address deficiencies in the existing road pavement, enable widening of the carriageway and alterations to intersection layouts for safety purposes. The completed works will provide provision for cyclists and motorists will notice significant improvements to road surface smoothness. In conjunction with the road works, existing trees lining the riverbank will have overhanging branches pruned clear of the vehicle traffic lanes. One tree causing undue infrastructure damage is programmed for removal. Replacement planting will occur on the bank below the footpath. At various times during the completion of the project the public will experience unavoidable delays while contractors complete their work. Significant disruption to traffic is unlikely to occur until early in January 2011. Motorists are encouraged to use alterative road routes around the perimeter of the road works. Residents within the work zone will be informed of the impending works via letter drop and be updated on progress during the project period. Council regrets any inconvenience these works may cause. |
