Issue No. 54 - 15 June 2002
Introducing Keith Hindson

A familiar face reappeared at the Council this week when Keith Hindson took up his appointment as Recreation and Culture Manager.

Keith replaces Mark Daniels who left in early May. He previously worked for the Council as Senior Parks Officer and was responsible for the revamped Winter Gardens at Virginia Lake.

Keith's background is in horticulture and parks and reserves management, mostly with local authorities, in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He also has experience in managing recreational and cultural facilities.

"This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Council's management team and I am looking forward to the challenge of my new role," Keith said.

Virginia Lake

The southern entrance to Virginia Lake has undergone a facelift. The Oamaru stone fence is now completed, as is the paving. The gates will be installed within the next fortnight, and you will also see some new plantings.

The Virginia Lake Trust is now raising money for stage two of the redevelopment of this area which is expected to cost approximately $18,000. Stage two will include the widening of the steps down to the lake edge, increasing the paved area by the lake edge and the installation of picnic tables.

Donations are invited and can be forwarded to:
