Building activity in Wanganui continues to boom - 11/09/2007Figures released by the Wanganui District Council today demonstrate the continuing boom in commercial activity in Wanganui during the past two financial years.
The figures and information about the Council's Building Services activity were released under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.
During the last financial year (July 2006-June 2007), the Council handled 1801 consents. This compares with 2120 in the previous 12 months from July 2005.
The Council employs 5.5 building inspectors and 1.5 vetters (staff who check consents before handing them over to inspectors). There is also one office support person, a stormwater office support person and a team leader, making a total of 10 staff. The number of staff has not increased in the last financial year.
The Council is required to meet timelines set down in the Building Act and those timelines are part of the Building Services' performance criteria which is reported each year in the Council's Annual Report.
The Building Services activity achieved all of its performance criteria for 2005/06. The statistics for the 2006/07 year are not yet available but will be published in the 2006/07 Annual Report.
However, with the additional requirements for accreditation imposed on the Building Services' staff, this has impacted on processing times and may impact on the overall statistics for the year ending 30 June 2007. |
