Wanganui District Council presents further submissions to Horizons' Proposed One Plan - 19/12/2007Wanganui District Council has today formally submitted a 'further submission' document to the 'Proposed One Plan', responding to other submissions received and published by Horizons Regional Council.
Horizons' 'Proposed One Plan' was publicly notified and received by territorial authorities on 31 May 2007. Since then, Council officers have reviewed the Plan and participated in a joint Territorial Authority group to discuss common issues. A workshop of Councillors, Rural Community Board members and Senior Management was held on July 26 to hear from Horizons staff and to consider the matters identified.
Wanganui District Council made a formal submission to the One Plan at the end of August 2007 and a joint submission with other territorial authorities was made, regarding areas of common concern, in September.
In the Council's submission it suggested that the closing date for submissions was too early considering the length and complexity of the document. The Council submitted that the One Plan lacked clarity and coherence and asked Horizons Regional Council to withdraw the whole plan and "notify a regional plan which is consistent with the outcomes sought in a regional policy statement, the outcomes of which are consistent with regional plan rules".
There were 473 submissions to the Horizons Regional Council One Plan.
