Work on Cooks Gardens athletic track complete - 1/02/2011

Resurfacing of the Cooks Gardens athletic track has been completed and the track has reopened in time for the New Zealand Masters Games, Infrastructure and Property Committee Chair Cr Ray Stevens said today.

“We were concerned that last Saturday’s wild weather might have delayed the work but it didn’t cause too much of a problem for the team,” Cr Stevens said.

“The line marking to IAAF standards was completed early afternoon on Sunday and the team is now about to return home for some well-earned R and R before working in Peru.

“The next scheduled part of this project is doing the paperwork and achieving the Class 2 certification for the track and field area.

“I’d like to thank our local athletes and the rest of the community for their co-operation while we had to close access to the track to allow the resurfacing to be done. This great community asset is now further enhanced and will get a good workout during the Masters Games which start this week.”
