“Have a ball the safe way” is the message from Wanganui District Council’s Youth Committee with the approach of this year’s ball season in Wanganui.

“The secondary school ball is a highlight for many young people,” says Youth Committee Chair Cr Jack Bullock.

“The Youth Committee wants to encourage people to have a great night and stay safe too.

“Every year there are reports in the media about students turning up drunk to events, out of control after-ball parties and the devastating and fatal effect excessive drinking by young people can have.

“All of our local high schools have laid down clear guidelines on behaviour and we want to encourage students to follow that advice and have a great night out.

“It’s not cool to put alcohol ahead of spending an evening eating, dancing and hanging out with school friends. The best nights out are the ones that people remember the next day. Look after yourself and your mates and make sure you all get home safely.”
