Youth shine at Underground Fashion Show events - 19/03/2012Cr Jack Bullock, Chair of the Youth Committee, is full of praise for the recent Underground Youth Fashion Show, which took place in Wanganui on March 16 and 17.
“The Underground Fashion Show is Wanganui’s premier youth event and is a fantastic example of how talented our young people are. It proves that youth creating events for youth is an effective way of encouraging young people to get involved in positive activities.
“The Underground Fashion Show is fast becoming an iconic event which youth, their families and the community look forward to every year. Schools, sponsors and a high number of community members also take part in some way which indicates to us that the event is recognised for its youth and community development potential.”
“I have been really impressed by organisers Kirsty Davidson and Jo McDonald, and the hundreds of local youth who put their heart and soul into an amazing show for us all to enjoy.
“It’s really important for communities to support opportunities like Underground where our young people are engaging positively, progressing their own ideas and achieving their goals.”
This year the Youth Committee sponsored the T-shirt competition run as part of the Underground Fashion Show and many youth councillors participated throughout the event. Council’s Computer Clubhouse also gave support to the event and the after-event celebration.
