Youth Committee funding available to help young people reach their potential - 7/05/2012Wanganui’s Youth Committee is offering young people, aged between 12 and 24 years, financial help to reach their potential in anything they are interested or involved in through the $300ship programme.
The $300ships are an initiative of the Youth Committee and young people in the Wanganui District area can apply for up to $300 towards their own personal development, in an area where they have shown some form of commitment (excluding tertiary study or school fees/expenses). They also need to demonstrate they have personally tried to raise funds for their chosen opportunity.
“This is the third round of $300ship funding and so far 10 young people have each received support through the scheme,” says Cr Jack Bullock, Chair of the Youth Committee.
“It’s a really great initiative and something which is really benefiting Wanganui’s young people to pursue their dreams and ambitions. All of our past recipients provide a report on how their $300ship has been used and have included attending a science forum, purchasing equipment to support high level sporting activity and to help develop their career path.”
Further information and an application form can be downloaded from the Council’s website at www.wanganui.govt.nz. You can also pick up an application form from the Customer Services Desk, Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.
Applications open on Tuesday, May 8 and close on Friday, June 8.
