Whanganui River flood levels being monitored - 16/07/2012

Emergency Manager, Max Benseman advises that Council is currently monitoring the Whanganui River for flood levels. With heavy rain in the Whanganui River’s catchment area over the past 24 hours, it is predicted that the Whanganui River level will peak at 7.5 meters at the City Bridge between 7.00am and 9.00am on Tuesday 17 July.

Kowhai Park will be closed until further notice.

There is likely to be some surface flooding on the Whanganui River Road and Kaiwhaiki Road – drivers are urged to take caution when driving in these areas. Flood warning signs will be erected to warn motorists of the potential dangers.

Emergency Management staff will continue to monitor the situation overnight, further updates will be provided tomorrow.
