Booking approval withdrawn for ‘Oscars Night’ event at the War Memorial Centre - 10/08/2012

Wanganui District Council Chief Executive, Kevin Ross, today confirmed that a booking approval for the War Memorial Centre for an ‘Oscar’s event’ on Saturday, August 11 was withdrawn on Wednesday, August 8.

“The booking approval was withdrawn as a result of information provided to Council Officers from Whanganui Police, who had concerns over the event,” Mr Ross said.

“The Police raised an issue as to whether a Special Licence was needed for the event.

“The Police made it clear that if an application for a Special Licence was made they would oppose it due to the past history of the event when held at other venues.

“Given the information from the Police a decision was made to cancel the booking and the deposit was refunded to the organisers.”
