Roads

SH4 Wanganui to Raetihi is now open. Extreme care is required.

Good progress has been made on clearing rural roads within the Wanganui District.

Whanganui River Road
Matatara Road
Kauarapaoa Road (closed between Wright's bridge and Mayo's)
Watershed Road (closed beyond Turner's steel gate)
Kaikokopu Road
Tokomaru East Road – closed to heavy vehicles only
Tokomaru West Road – closed to heavy vehicles only

The following roads are open but care is required
Rangitatau East Road
Makirikiri Valley Road
Te Rimu Road (locals only)
Papaiti Road (unsealed section)

Earth moving plant has been working on the following roads today
Whanganui River Road

Kauarapaoa Road
Kaukatea Valley Road

Mangamahu access

An update is expected on Wednesday from Transit NZ engineers who are designing the Bailey bridge for Mangamahu. Details of the design and the construction time may be available tomorrow. Construction of a flying fox to transport mail and other small items is expected to begin in the next few days.
