More celebrities sign up for Mayoral Mile - 16/03/2007Mayor Michael Laws today confirmed that two more of his competitors in this year's Dancing with the Stars will line up in tomorrow's Mayoral Mile.
NZ Idol judge and former True Bliss singer Megan Alatini and her dance partner Jonny Williams will race against a host of other well-known names in the celebrity event at Cooks Gardens on Saturday evening.
Other celebrities participating in the Mayoral Mile include Dancing with the Stars champion and former All Black Norm Hewitt, 1974 Commonwealth Games 10,000 metre gold medallist Dick Tayler and 1976 Olympic 5000 metre silver medallist and now local body politician Dick Quax. Adding some extra glamour will be Dancing with the Stars dance experts Lauren de Boeck and Hayley Holt, plus Brendon Pongia, host of TVNZ's Good Morning, who is also in this year's Dancing with the Stars competition.
The Mayoral Mile kicks off at 10am with mass participation events where people of all ages and abilities can run, jog or walk a mile. Members of the public are invited to participate any time between 10am and 5pm.
The evening programme includes novelty events, the Toddlers 20, school relays, races for elite athletes and the celebrity/mayors' mile at 8.30pm. The feature event, the elite men's A mile, is scheduled for 9pm, with a $10,000 prize for the winner. |
