Nominations sought for Wanganui Civic Honours Awards - 16/04/2007

Wanganui District Council is inviting nominations for the 2007 Wanganui Civic Honours Awards.

The awards are aimed at unpaid volunteers who work predominantly in the area of community service, Deputy Mayor Dot McKinnon said.

"Wanganui has so many people who make a huge voluntary contribution to our community – and this is our chance to recognise their efforts," Cr McKinnon said.

"There is a maximum of five awards per year to protect the integrity of the award and the focus is on community service. The recipients will receive a framed certificate and a gift which reflects Wanganui's arts culture.

"There are still a few weeks to get nominations in so I encourage Wanganui residents to put forward names of those people who do so much to enhance our community."

Nominations for the 2007 awards close on Friday, April 27. Nomination forms are available from the Wanganui District Council.

A civic function to present the awards will be held in the Council Chamber on May 31. Recipients, their immediate family and the nominating person/group will be invited to attend.
