Welcome to the Shaping Wanganui website. This is where you can find out what the Wanganui District Council planning team is up to and have your say on how Wanganui is developed in the future.

Shaping Wanganui is the name of the Wanganui District Plan Review project currently being undertaken by Council. Every district has a District Plan that is required to be reviewed every 10 years. The current District Plan was prepared in the 1990s and is now ready for review.

Recent changes to the Resource Management Act 1991 enabled Council to carry out the review in stages, as opposed to all at once. This is the option Council has chosen to follow.

Phase 1 is now complete, with decisions made operative on 25 May 2012.

The Hearing process for Phase 2 (Residential) and Phase 3 (Built Heritage) has taken place and deliberations are ongoing. You can find the Proposed Plan Change text and Summary of Submissions on the Have Your Say page. You can find all the information about Phase 2 and Phase 3 on the sidebar.

We are now starting Phase 4 (Rural) and Phase 5 (Archaeology and Protected Trees). For more information go to Phase 4 or Phase 5 on the sidebar.

Check out the diagram below or go to the navigation bar for more information about current phases.
