Are you interested in Wanganui's
Old Cemetery?
Do you want to belong to a "Friends of the Old Cemetery" Group? The Historic Places Trust, and Wanganui District Council, are keen to involve members of the community in caring for and helping to restore one of our most historic places - the Old Cemetery at Heads Road. We would like to set up a "Friends of the Old Cemetery" group and invite those who would be interested to a site visit at the Heads Road Cemetery at 3pm on Saturday, 20 November 2004. Wendy Pettigrew, Secretary of the Wanganui Branch, Historic Places Trust, will lead a short tour of the cemetery, identifying some of the historic highlights as well as a few of the issues we need to consider. Marie Gorinski from the Wanganui District Council will explain how the cemetery is maintained at present and what opportunities there would be for volunteers to become involved. Site surveys, guided walks, minor maintenance tasks at "working bees" could all become regular activities for a 'Friends" group. For further information, contact Wendy Pettigrew (phone 347 2575) or Marie Gorinski at the Wanganui District Council (phone 349 0001). Join us on Saturday, 20 November 2004 and discover the history of the cemetery and its unique cultural heritage. |

Public Notice of Territorial Authority's
Requirement for Designation
Sections 168A and 181(4), Resource Management Act 1991 The Wanganui District Council (Wanganui Water Services) gives notice of its requirement for a designation for a public work. The site to which the requirement applies is as follows:
The nature of the proposed work is: It is intended to designate a corridor no less than 4m wide for the purpose of laying a steel pipe of approximately 450mm diameter for a distance of 6 kilometres. In some locations two new pipes will be laid alongside each other requiring a 6m wide designation. The effects that the public work will have on
the environment, and the ways in which any adverse effects will be mitigated,
are: Noise: Noise associated with the designation will be limited to construction noise and any future maintenance. Contractors will be required to comply with the New Zealand Standards relating to construction noise, NZ 6803:1999 Acoustics - Construction Noise. Cultural: An archaeologist has been engaged to provide an assessment to determine if the pipeline is likely to pass through or near any site of significance. The archaeologists have identified that it is unlikely that sites of archaeological significance will be disturbed during the construction of the pipeline; however, appropriate mitigation methods have been proposed. (A copy of this report is made available with the notice of requirement). Traffic: The pipeline will be constructed within road reserve in some locations. This may require limited disruption to traffic during construction. Any adverse effects arising from this will be mitigated by the contractor's traffic management plan that is required to be submitted to Council prior to works commencing. It is noted that the requiring authority is not seeking to designate any part of the corridor which crosses road). Alternative sites, routes and methods that have
been considered to the following extent: The public work and designation are reasonably
necessary for achieving the objectives of the territorial authority because: The following consultation has been undertaken
with parties that are likely to be affected: The Notice of Requirement may be inspected at the Wanganui District Council offices during normal office hours. Please contact Campbell Larking on (06) 349 0001 ext 8007 if you have any questions about the requirement. Any person may make a submission on the requirement. You may do so by sending a written submission to the Chief Executive Officer, Wanganui District Council, PO Box 637, Wanganui. The submission must be in Form 21. Copies of this form are available from the Wanganui District Council Municipal Building (Customer Services), 101 Guyton Street. Submissions close on Friday, 10 December 2004, at 4pm. |
