Issue No. 316 - 21 June 2007
Increase in Council Building, Infrastructure and Planning fees

Council has recently undertaken a full review of the cost structure within the Building Control function.

The combined effect of full cost recovery and increased costs due to building accreditation requires an increase in the Building Control Fees.

The flow-on effect from this increase means that Building Consent charges will increase and become effective from 1 July 2007.

Infrastructure (water, stormwater, sewerage) connection fees and Planning Consent fees have also been reviewed and amended.

A full list of all the revised fees will be available from the Customer Services Counter, Municipal Office Building, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui and on this site (note: the fee list is not yet available).

Wanganui District Council Bridge 47 Replacement

Expressions of interest are sought for the design and construction of a replacement structure, together with associated approach roads, for Bridge 47 which collapsed following the July 2006 flood.

Bridge 47 is located on the Mangamahu Rd across the Mangawhero River, 7km from Kauangaroa Rd and 33.3km from Wanganui.

Preliminary assessments have indicated that the preferred option is likely to be:

  • Single lane structure, of two equal spans supported on a central pier sited in the middle of the river.
  • Total length of 85m between abutment bearing centrelines.
  • Supported on large diameter cylinders founded in a layer of dense sandy gravels encountered at approximately 20m below deck level.
  • Protected by rip-rap rock below the abutments and around the pier foundations to provide adequate security against scour and bank instability.
  • Encompass 150m of embankment and roading reconstruction.

Submissions shall include a resume of the contractor's experience of similar bridge construction and also of that of their nominated design consultant.

Expressions of interest shall be marked "Bridge 47 Replacement" and submitted in writing by 4:00pm on Tuesday, 26 June 2007, to:
