At Your Service - Swimming Pools We provide swimming pools To provide opportunities for swimming and water sports. How this service is provided Public swimming pools provide safe, all-year swimming and instructional opportunities to the community. Wanganui's three public pools are the Splash Centre, Gonville and Wanganui East. Services provided All pools have: Changing and shower rooms, toilets, viewing areas with seating, and a shop. Supervision of swimmers. Swimming and instructional opportunities such as learn to swim, aerobics etc. Swimming aids such as boards, floats, lane markers etc. Individual pools: Splash Centre - 25m heated indoor pool, learner pool and disabled facilities. Gonville - 33m heated outdoor pool, learner pool, toddler pool and slide. Wanganui East - 33m heated outdoor pool, learner pool and toddler pool, hydroslide, BBQ, picnic facilities and lawn area. Hot showers available for customers at Wanganui East and Splash Centre. Hours The Splash Centre is open 6am to 8pm weekdays and 8am to 6pm weekends. The outdoor pools are open 20 weeks per year commencing Labour Weekend. Monitoring the service Community surveys. The Council has a target of 80% satisfaction with all pools. Pool water is tested to ensure that appropriate water quality standards are maintained. Heads Road Cemetery The Heads Road Cemetery was closed for burials in 1915, pursuant to the Cremation Act 1908, subsequently superseded by the Burials and Cremations Act 1964. The Burials and Cremations Act 1964 has now been amended by the Burial and Cremation Amendment Act 2000. This amendment allows for closed cemeteries to be reopened by order of the Minister of Health. The Wanganui District Council is applying to the Minister for an opening order to allow burials in the Heads Road Cemetery. Submissions for or against this proposal are invited from members of the public.
