Durie Hill pre-cast step replacement
These concrete steps will be closed for public access from 14 April 2008 for approximately 10 weeks (subject to weather). This will allow the steps to be replaced in sections. Contract 1370 – Operation, Management and Marketing Tenders are sought for the operation, management and marketing of the Durie Hill Elevator in Wanganui. In addition to the price tendered, Council will consider the following attributes when considering tenders: 1. Relevant Experience 2. Skills 3. Quality of written/oral referees (names and contact details of at least two referees to be provided plus any written reference they may choose to provide). 4. Financial credentials. 5. Wastewater separation update
On Smithfield Road works will continue between No.23 Smithfield Road and Moore Avenue but the road will be open to traffic. However, works will continue on Smithfield Road from Moore Avenue to Brooking Street and that section of road will be closed to traffic. Access will still be available to residents. Works continue on Sarjeant Street. The road will remain open to traffic. Liffiton Street will close until April 30 at the top end next to Heads Road. Access to properties on the street will still be available from the Taupo Quay end. |

Downgrading of Fire Season status
from Prohibited to Restricted
Pursuant to Section 22(2) of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 notice is hereby given that the Prohibited Fire Season imposed on 27 January 2008 for the Wanganui District, on 29 January 2008 for the Rangitikei District and on 30 January 2008 for the Ruapehu District is downgraded to a Restricted Fire Season as from midnight Friday, 7 March 2008. All persons wishing to light fires in the open must obtain a permit. The issuing of permits will be according to each of the above Councils' previous individual arrangements. Sufficient time should be allowed for any investigation or inspection to be made prior to the issuing of a permit. Exemptions:

Ratepayers need to apply to the Wanganui District Council for a rates rebate. Those who are eligible will then either have their rates reduced by the amount of the rebate, or receive a refund if the rates have been paid in full for the year. The Department of Internal Affairs reimburses the Council from Crown funds. |
