Builders' trade evening
Thursday, October 9

Wanganui District Council is holding a builders' trade evening on Thursday, 9 October 2008. The event takes place in the Wanganui Room at Wanganui Racecourse at 4.30pm and includes presentations on current topics. Refreshments will be available.

Use of sprinklers

Sprinkler restrictions have been reviewed by Council. Automatic garden sprinklers can be used by all residents (irrespective of whether their house number is an odd or even number) between the following times:

7pm to 9pm: During the hours of daylight saving
6pm to 8pm: Outside the hours of daylight saving

Hand-held hoses can be used at any time.

Sustainable Living Programme

Sustainable Living logoWanganui District Council is encouraging sustainability through promoting the Sustainable Living Programme at the Environment Centre at 38 Taupo Quay.

Sustainable Living is an independent, community-based adult education and action programme, helping people make informed decisions about their choices affecting the environment.

The eight-week programme focuses on practical tips and techniques to reduce your environmental footprint. These include waste reduction, conserving water use, composting and growing organic food.

Course participants will pay a special discount rate to cover the cost of handouts (about $10) plus an optional koha to cover tea. To book a place contact CES on (06) 345 4717. For further information, contact the Environment Centre on (06) 345 5048 or (06) 349 2494.

Public notice of decision on plan changes
to the Wanganui District Plan and the operative date

Public notice is hereby given in accordance with Clause 10(3) and Clause 20(2) of the First Schedule of the Resource Management Act 1991, that the Wanganui District Council has made its decisions and has approved the following plan changes to the Wanganui District Plan:

Plan Change 11: 25 Tawa Street
To rezone 25 Tawa Street from Reserves and Open Space to Residential.

Plan Change 12: 39-41 Tawa Street
To rezone 39-41 Tawa Street from Reserves and Open Space to Residential.

At its Ordinary meeting on Monday, 22 September 2008, the Council resolved to adopt the above plan changes which will become operative on Thursday, 16 October 2008.

Wanganui District Council Proposed Plan Change 14:
Rezoning of 9 Birch Place

Public notice is hereby given in accordance with Clause 5 of the First Schedule of the Resource Management Act 1991 (The Act) that the Wanganui District Council has prepared Plan Change 14 to the Wanganui District Plan.

The Wanganui District Council notifies the Plan Change as follows:

Proposed Plan Change 14: Rezoning of 9 Birch Place

Proposed Plan Change No. 14 seeks to rezone the property located at the end of Birch Place, Wanganui, being Lot 78 DP 48286 and held in Certificate of Title 200154 Wellington Land Registration District, from Reserves and Open Space to Residential Zone. This land is shown on the Wanganui District Planning Maps as Birch Place Reserve.

Submission forms and copies of Plan Change 14 are available for public inspection, during normal working hours, at the Customer Service Desk at the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, at the District Library, Queens Park, Wanganui.

Submissions relating to any aspect of the Plan Change should be in writing and on the prescribed form, which is available at the locations mentioned above, and addressed to:

The closing date for submissions is 5.00pm on Monday, 3 November 2008.

After the submission period has closed, the Council will prepare a summary of all decisions requested by the submissions. The Council will notify the availability of that summary and where the summary can be inspected. There is then an opportunity to make further submissions about any of the original submissions. The Council will then hold a Hearing to the submissions. All persons who make a submission or further submission and who requested to be heard will be advised of the date, time and place of the Hearing. The Council will then make decisions on the submissions and further submissions. Any submitter or further submitter may refer the decision on their submission to the Environment Court.

Possum poison (cholecalciferol gel bait) stations

Possum poison bait stations will be laid in the 'green belt' from Victoria Park to the Deer Park from Friday, 29 August 2008, to Sunday, 30 November 2008.

When in these areas, please keep dogs under control at all times or muzzled. Should they consume any carcasses or parts please seek veterinary advice.

Stopping of accessway
(Purnell Street to Murch Place, Wanganui)
Section 342 (1) Local Government Act 1974
  1. The Wanganui District Council has recommended that the accessway (public road) between Purnell Street and Murch Place, Wanganui, described in the Schedule below be stopped and the two sections created be sold to adjoining owners.
  2. The recommendation to stop the accessway was made following receipt of a petition from a number of residents citing reasons that included frequent vandalism and graffiti, constant littering and threatening behaviour from people using the accessway.
  3. Plan numbered SO410329 showing the areas of the accessway to be stopped is open for public inspection at the main reception desk, Wanganui District Council, corner of Guyton & St Hill Streets, Wanganui during business hours 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, from the date of the first publication of this Notice.

Any objection must be lodged in writing with the Chief Executive, Wanganui District Council, PO Box 637, Wanganui within 40 days of the first publication of this Notice. This is the second publication of this Notice. Objections close on 23 October 2008.

The Schedule

(i) That part of the accessway described as Section 1 on Survey Office Plan 410329 comprising 0.0090 Ha.

(ii) That part of the accessway described as Section 2 on Survey Office Plan 410329 comprising 0.0073 Ha.

Proposal to close road(s)/street(s) to vehicular traffic

Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulation 1965, notice is hereby given that the Wanganui District Council, for the purpose of a hill climb event by the Wanganui Car Club, proposes to close the following road to ordinary vehicular traffic for the period indicated hereunder.

During the proposed period(s) of closure, the following provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Rangitatau East Road.

Any person objecting to the proposal(s) is called upon to lodge notice of his objection and grounds thereof in writing before 26 October 2008 at the office of the Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.

Road proposed to be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic:
Rangitatau East Road from approximately 2km south of Junction Road to 5km north of the gate to Paparangi Station.

Period or periods of proposed closure:
Sunday, 23 November 2008, from 9.00am to 6.00pm

Temporary road closure
Dustin Street – May Street and Kawatiri Avenue

Dustin StreetDustin Street will be closed between May Street and Kawatiri Avenue between 7.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday until 17 October 2008 for the installation of a new stormwater line.

Residents will have vehicle access to their dwellings at all times.

A signposted detour will not be provided.

Temporary road closure: Shakespeare Road

Shakespeare Stage 1Shakespeare Road between Georgetti Road and No.34 Shakespeare Road will be closed until Saturday, 18 October 2008, for the purpose of constructing new sewer and stormwater drains (see Stage 1 map).

At some time during the period of closure, the actual closure will change to between house Nos. 14 and 34 as shown on the Stage 2 map.

Vehicle access to properties on Shakespeare Road will be available at all times.

However, the contractor will liaise with property owners who may not have access to their properties for short periods during the closure.Shakespeare Stage 2
