Draft 2009 Earthquake-Prone Buildings Policy
(Sec 83(1)(f) of the Local Government Act 2002) Wanganui District Council is reviewing its 2006 Earthquake-Prone Buildings Policy and in doing so is following the special consultative procedure set out in Section 83 of the Local Government Act 2002. Submissions are now invited on the policy review. Copies of a Draft 2009 Earthquake-Prone Buildings Policy, Statement of Proposal and submission forms are available from the Customer Services Counter, Municipal Office Building, 101 Guyton Street, and at the District Library, Queens Park, during normal opening hours. Proposed Wanganui District Council Street Infrastructure Bylaw 2008
(Sec 89 and 158 of the Local Government Act 2002) Section 158 of the Local Government Act 2002 requires Wanganui District Council to review its Bylaws. In accordance with this requirement Council proposes to revoke Part 8 - Streets - Wanganui District Council Consolidated Bylaw 1995 and replace it with a new Bylaw, the Wanganui District Council Street Infrastructure Bylaw 2008. Submissions are now invited on the Proposed Street Infrastructure Bylaw 2008. Proposed Wanganui District Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw 2008
(Sec 83, 86, 89, 155 and 158 of the Local Government Act 2002) Section 158 of the Local Government Act 2002 requires Wanganui District Council to review its Bylaws. A review of Part 7 – Cemeteries and Crematoria – Wanganui Consolidated Bylaw 1996 has shown that while there are no major amendments required, due to the age of the bylaw, the structure and language used, the bylaw has been revised to ensure certainty and to make the bylaw easier to read and understand. Submissions are now invited on the Proposed Wanganui District Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw 2008. Closure of road(s)/street(s) to ordinary vehicular traffic
Cemetery Circuit Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, notice is hereby given that for the purpose of the annual Cemetery Circuit motorcycle racing by Cemetery Circuit Ltd the following roads and streets will be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic for the periods indicated hereunder. During the periods of closure, the following provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use: Taupo Quay from the Warehouse building to Liffiton Street, Pacific Place, Heads Road from Taupo Quay to Liffiton Street, Liffiton Street from Heads Road to Taupo Quay, Sarjeant Street from Heads Road to Guyton Street, Guyton Street from Heads Road to Hatrick Street West, Hatrick Street East from Guyton Street to Ridgway Street, Ridgway Street from Guyton Street to Trafalgar Place, Wilson Street from Maria Place extension to Taupo Quay. Period or periods of closure: Alternative provision for ordinary vehicular traffic: It will be an offence under the above regulations for any person otherwise than under authority of an authorised permit to use the roads and streets for ordinary vehicular traffic during the periods of closure. There will be no racing on Christmas Day; this closure is to ensure safety for the personnel to set up the track. |
Proposal to close road(s)/street(s) to vehicular traffic
Taupo Quay Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, notice is hereby given that the Wanganui District Council, for the purpose of the annual Waitangi Day Celebrations by the Nga Tai o te Awa Trust, proposes to close the following road to ordinary vehicular traffic for the period(s) indicated hereunder. During the proposed period of closure, the following provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Taupo Quay. The alternative route will be Market Place and Bates Street. Road proposed to be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic: Period or periods of proposed closure: Any person objecting to the proposal is called upon to lodge notice of his objection and grounds thereof in writing before 9 January 2009 at the office of the Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui. |

Public notice of the right to demand a poll on the electoral system for the Wanganui District Council
Notice is given under Section 28 (1) of the Local Electoral Act 2001 that electors of the Wanganui District Council have the right to demand a poll on the electoral system to be used for the 2010 triennial elections of the Wanganui District Council. The Wanganui District Council resolved on 2 September 2008 to continue with the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system for the 2010 election, unless a poll determines otherwise. The Local Electoral Act 2001 provides for the choice between the First Past the Post (FPP) and Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral systems. A valid demand for a poll must be:
Section 30 (3) of the Local Electoral Act states that every elector who signs a demand must also set out their name and the address for which they are qualified as an elector of the Wanganui District Council. |

Ratepayers need to apply to the Wanganui District Council for a rates rebate. Those who are eligible will then either have their rates reduced by the amount of the rebate, or receive a refund if the rates have been paid in full for the year. The Department of Internal Affairs reimburses the Council from Crown funds. |
