Wanganui Australian Bushfire Appeal 2009
Street collection Friday, February 20

Bushfire Appeal logoA street collection is taking place on Friday, February 20, to support the Wanganui District Council Australian Bushfire Appeal 2009.

Collectors will be based at various locations around the city and there will be a fundraising event at Majestic Square during the lunch period. ANZ Bank staff will run a fundraising barbecue in Majestic Square, with all proceeds going to the appeal.

Senior students from local high schools will join Council staff and community volunteers to collect money for the victims of the devastating fires.

"Cr Stevens, who is co-ordinating the appeal, said the tragedy in Victoria, Australia, had touched everyone.

"The graphic pictures in the media do not tell the whole story. The horror for a nation and a people can and never will be forgotten. I hope Wanganui people will give what they can to help those in need.

"I appreciate the generosity of everyone who has already donated to the Council's appeal and the support of Wanganui's ANZ Bank, as well as the volunteers and organisations who are helping with the street collection.

"If people haven't donated to the appeal but would like to, Friday's event is a great opportunity. There will be people all over the city with collection buckets and plenty of activity going on in Majestic Square."

Donations to the Wanganui District Council Australian Bushfire Appeal 2009 can also be made at any New Zealand branch of the ANZ Bank.

The account is called the "Wanganui District Council Australian Bushfire Appeal"; account number 01 0790 0181052 00 ANZ Wanganui.
