Public notice of operative date for Plan Change 13
to the Wanganui District Plan

Public notice is hereby given in accordance with Clause 10(3) and Clause 20(2) of the First Schedule of the Resource Management Act 1991 that the Wanganui District Council has approved the following plan change to the Wanganui District Plan:

Plan Change 13: Rezoning Windsor Park
To rezone Windsor Park North (in part) and Windsor Park South (ie excluding the Durie Hill Bowling Club green and clubhouse) from Reserves and Open Space to Residential.

At its Ordinary meeting of Monday, 20 July 2009, the Council adopted the above plan change, which is to become operative on Monday, 3 August 2009.

Proposal to stop road
Pursuant to Section 342 Local Government Act 1974
Christie Place, Fordell

The Wanganui District Council proposes to stop a portion of legal road known as Christie Place, Fordell, and described as Section 1 on Survey Office Plan No. 420503 comprising 1392m2. This area will be amalgamated into the adjoining title in the name of the Ministry of Education.

The balance of Christie Place adjoining Budge Street and described as CSC Parcel number 3 will remain as legal road.

Survey Office Plan No. 420503 showing the two areas described above is now open for public inspection at the Customer Service Counter, Municipal Office Building, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui between 8.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Any objection to the proposal must be lodged in writing with the Chief Executive, Wanganui District Council, PO Box 637, Wanganui within 40 days (namely 24 August 2009) of the first publication of this notice. This is the second publication of this notice.

Proposal to close road(s)/street(s) to vehicular traffic

Purusant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, notice is hereby given that the Wanganui District Council, for the purpose of a hill climb event by the Wanganui Car Club, proposes to close the following road to ordinary vehicular traffic for the period indicated hereunder.

Roads proposed to be closed to ordinary vehicular traffic:
Okoia Road from 100 metres before Matarawa Valley Road to the top of the hill to No. 2 Line

Period or periods of proposed closure:
Sunday, 23 August 2009, from 9.00am to 6.00pm

During the proposed period of closure, the following provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Okoia Road: the Wanganui Car Club will allow controlled access through Okoia Road.

Any person objecting to the proposal is called upon to lodge notice of their objection and grounds thereof in writing, before 26 July 2009, at the office of the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui.

Dog Registration Fees 2009/10

The Wanganui District Council gives notice, as required by the Dog Control Act 1996, Section 37(b), of the Dog Registration Fees set by resolution of Council on 8 June 2009.

The Dog Registration Fees are for 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010.

Dogs classified as "dangerous" pay 150% of the level that would apply if the dog were not classified as a dangerous dog (Section 32, 1(e) of the Dog Control Act 1996)

Microchipping of dogs

From 1 July 2006 the following are required to be microchipped:

  • All dogs registered in New Zealand for the first time (excluding working dogs that are exempt)
  • All dogs that have been classified as dangerous or menacing on or after 1 December 2003 (including working dogs)
  • All unregistered dogs that are impounded
  • All registered dogs that are impounded twice in the same registration year, from 1 July 2006

Draft Virginia Lake Reserve Management Plan

Wanganui District Council has prepared a Draft Reserve Management Plan for Virginia Lake and interested parties are invited to lodge written submissions.

The vision statement for Virginia Lake is that 'the reserve's outstanding scenic and park-like characteristics provide for the well-being and enjoyment of the people of Wanganui, and visitors to the District, while at the same time supporting a high value habitat for wildlife within the Wanganui urban area'.

The objectives of the Draft Reserve Management Plan relate to:

  • Administration
  • Landscape management and protection
  • Wildlife management and protection
  • Cultural resources/heritage
  • Recreational access, use and activities
  • Facilities, structures and paths
  • Information, promotion and education
  • Community relationships

Any person may make a submission on the draft reserve management plan. Submissions close at 4.00pm on Friday, 31 July 2009.
