Temporary Road Closure
Parkes Avenue - Kent Road to Ngapuhi Street (Contractor -Works Infrastructure Ltd)
Weather permitting, Parkes Avenue between Kent Road and Ngapuhi Street will be closed from 8.00am on Monday, 13 May 2002, until 5.00pm on Thursday, 16 May 2002, for the purpose of installing new stormwater pipes across Parkes Avenue. A detour route via Kent Road and Ngapuhi Street will be available to pass the closed section. Residents along the closed section will have vehicular access to their properties available at all times. The Council regrets any inconvenience caused. |

Durie Hill Elevator
The Durie Hill Elevator will be closed on Wednesday, 15 May 2002, 7.30am - 6.00pm (all day), to carry out general maintenance. |

Durie Hill Memorial Tower
The tower will be closed to public access from Monday, 13 May 2002, up to and including Friday, 17 May 2002. The tower will re-open on Saturday, 18 May 2002. This closure is to carry out interior repainting. |

Closure to Vehicular Traffic
[Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965] The Wanganui Car Club, for the purpose of a hillclimb event, proposes to close Brunswick Road from 11km before the bridge at the bottom to the junction with Blueskin Road on Saturday, 22 June 2002, from 9.00am to 6.00pm. During the closure provision will be made for ordinary vehicular traffic which would otherwise use Brunswick Road. Any person objecting to the proposed road closure should lodge notice of his/her objections and grounds thereof in writing before 25 May 2002 at the Wanganui District Council, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui. |

Dublin Street Bridge
Minor Carriageway Repair Work (Contractor -Works Infrastructure Ltd) Works Infrastructure Limited will be carrying out surface repairs to the carriageway, weather permitting, during the week of 13 May to 17 May 2002. This work will be undertaken between the hours of 9.00am and 3.00pm and at times traffic on the bridge may be reduced to one lane, resulting in minor delays. The Council regrets any inconvenience caused. |

Comments sought on remuneration
system
The Higher Salaries Commission is currently seeking submissions on the system for paying elected representatives. The Commission has released a discussion paper which is available for public comment until Friday, 31 May 2002. The paper, "Discussion Paper on Elected Member Remuneration Framework", is available online via the Council's web site or on the Local Government New Zealand site. Copies are also available for viewing at the Council's Customer Services Desk and the District Library. Submissions on the discussion paper should be made to the Higher Salaries Commission. Further details are available in the document. |

Notice of Bridge Works and Wanganui District Council wishes to advise that a contract for the re-decking of the downstream cycle and walkways on the Dublin Street Bridge has been let to H Bullock Bridge Builders Ltd. The downstream cycle and walkways are closed until further notice. This closure is necessary to allow work on the re-decking of the downstream cycle and walkway to proceed over the next 12 weeks. During the closure pedestrians and cyclists are urged to use the upstream cycle and walkways, using the bridge underpasses for access. |

MO TE MAHI Applications for financial assistance under the Creative New Zealand Local Arts Funding Scheme are now being called for. Approximately $18,000 is available for distribution to arts and cultural activity groups, organisations and individuals, based in the Wanganui District Council area. (Applications from individuals must indicate community rather than exclusive benefit). Special Order
The Wanganui District Council hereby gives notice that it is intended to confirm the following Special Order at its Ordinary meeting on Monday, 20 May 2002. The meeting will be held at 2pm in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 101 Guyton Street, Wanganui. THAT pursuant to Sections 319, 320 and 716B of the Local Government Act 1974 the Council resolves to rename Russell Road to Nukumaru Station Road. The purpose of the change is to officially recognise the name by which the road is locally known. Public Inspection |

Andrews Place Walkways
Temporary Closure The Wanganui District Council intends closing the walkways between Andrews Place and Braves Softball Club Grounds, and Andrews Place and Harper Street, for a trial period of twelve (12) months from Friday, 26 April 2002. Foot traffic will be excluded although alternative access is available. These closures are as a result of a public petition from concerned residents presented at the Works and Transport Committee meeting on 26 March 2002 and confirmed at the Ordinary Meeting of the Council on 8 April 2002.
