Community helps transform Kokohuia Wetland

Kokohuia Wetland in Castlecliff is undergoing a transformation.

The first plantings of the wetland area took place on June 6-7. Thank you to the pupils of Te Kura O Kokohuia and Conservation Corps students from throughout the North Island who have helped with the planting.

Thanks also to the Wanganui UCOL Conservation Corps and the YMCA Conservation Corps for doing pre-planting preparation work.

UCOL Community Consultation - Public Meeting

The Wanganui community is encouraged to attend a public meeting to consider the Draft UCOL Wanganui Regional Community Charter and Regional Advisory Committee Terms of Reference.

The meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, June 26, in the Pioneer Room of the War Memorial Hall.

Copies of the draft documents are available from the Council's Customer Services Desk and the District Library. Copies are also available on the web, or by phoning 0800 428 852 or emailing UCOL.

Virginia Lake

The southern entrance to Virginia Lake has undergone a facelift. The Oamaru stone fence is now completed, as is the paving. The gates will be installed within the next fortnight, and you will also see some new plantings.

The Virginia Lake Trust is now raising money for stage two of the redevelopment of this area which is expected to cost approximately $18,000. Stage two will include the widening of the steps down to the lake edge, increasing the paved area by the lake edge and the installation of picnic tables.

Temporary Road Closure: Delhi Avenue - Somme Parade to Burmah Street
Wanganui Wastewater Separation Project

Delhi Avenue from Somme Parade to Burmah Street will be closed from 8.00am on Monday, 17 June 2002, until 5.00pm on Friday, 5 July 2002, for the purpose of wastewater separation works.

Road users are requested to follow the sign posted detour whilst the closure is in operation.

Vehicle access to properties on the closed section of road will be available at all times. Limited parking will be available in the closed section.

The Council regrets any inconvenience caused.
