Community Awards deadline extended - 3/11/2004The deadline for nominations for the Wanganui Community Awards has been extended until early 2005, Wanganui District Council Community Committee Chair Sue Pepperell said today.
Nominations were due to close on Friday, November 5. However, due to the revamped format for the Awards announced by Mayor Michael Laws last week, the closing date has been extended.
"The Mayor and Council want to give greater recognition to the Community Awards and in future they will be presented at a full meeting of the Council," Cr Pepperell said.
"We've decided to extend the period for nominations into the new year to give more opportunity for people to put forward names of those who do such great voluntary work in our community. There are so many people who do so much to serve the community, often without any recognition.
"I encourage everyone to think about the people who contribute to community life and who deserve recognition for that work, and to nominate those people for the Wanganui Community Awards."
The Awards are only for voluntary service and nominations must be made by two Wanganui citizens or a bona fide organisation. Nomination forms are available from the Council's Customer Services Desk. At this stage, no closing date for nominations has been set. |
