Big Day Out bus for Wanganui’s young people - 30/11/2009

For the third year running Wanganui District Council’s Youth Committee has organised a great deal for young people wanting to attend the Big Day Out (BDO) in Auckland on Friday, January 15.

Bus tickets, which cost just $20, are available for Wanganui youth aged 16-20 years who are attending the BDO. The $20 ticket is for the bus ride to Auckland and back only – it doesn’t include a ticket to the BDO (available online at www.bigdayout.com), accommodation, food or other transport.

Youth Committee Chair Cr Danny Jonas says that lots of our young people will want to go to the BDO and this is a cheap and safe way of getting them there.

“This is the third year we’ve run the bus to the BDO and we know parents appreciate the peace of mind they get knowing their kids have a safe way to attend this fantastic event.

“The Youth Committee has done a great job in keeping the initiative going and this year they have secured sponsorship to support the trip, from major sponsor Cheapskates and supporting sponsors First Mobile, Tranzit Coachlines and Double S Motordrome.

“It’s a great opportunity for our young people and much better than driving themselves – and the cheapest form of transport as well.”

The bus departs from i-SITE Visitor Centre at 10.00am on Thursday, January 14, and arrives in Auckland at approximately 6.00pm. The bus departs central Auckland at 10.00am on Saturday, January 16, and arrives in Wanganui about 6.00pm. Trained youth workers will accompany the young people and are available if required during the entire trip.

Everyone needs to sign a form at purchase and those under 18 must have parental permission.

Tickets are available from MyMusic and Cheapskates on Victoria Avenue.
