Water main connection means lower pressure for Wanganui East - 23/11/2010

The major water supply main recently renewed along the length of the Aramoho Rail Bridge will be connected to the existing system on Friday, November 26.

Infrastructure and Property Committee Chair Cr Ray Stevens said this will involve closing the existing pipeline across the bridge and connecting both ends of the new pipe to the existing system.

The new 250mm diameter main is a bulk supply main for upper Wanganui East and supplies water to approximately 1000 households.

“While the system is closed, the households will receive an alternative supply from Dublin St Bridge and City Bridge,” Cr Stevens said.

“However, this supply will be at a lower pressure and about. 35 houses will not have water between 9am and 3pm. These households are being notified individually. The Fire Service has also been advised.”

It is possible that some discoloured water may occur in the system because of the change in flow directions. Council will undertake flushing to minimise the potential and if any particular issues arise.

If discoloured water from taps does not become clear, residents should contact the Wanganui District Council on 349 0001.
