Kai Iwi bores - power supply shutdown - 24/02/2011

Powerco will be shutting down the power supply to the Kai Iwi bores on Sunday, February 27, between 8.00am and 4.00pm. As a result pumping of water from the Kai Iwi bores to the city reservoir will be temporarily disrupted.

Cr Ray Stevens, Chair of Council’s Infrastructure and Property Group is encouraging people to be sensible about their water use during the shutdown period.

“There will not be any effect on water supply to the city, as the reservoirs have sufficient capacity to meet demand. However, the power supply shutdown will mean that there will be a gap in the supply to the reservoir. For this reason, I would encourage people to be sensible about their water use on Sunday.

“Council is generally encouraging people to be aware of their water consumption over this long, dry summer and February traditionally has one of the lowest rainfalls throughout the year.

“The garden watering rules allow automatic garden sprinklers to be used any day but only between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. Hand-held hoses can be used at any time.”
