Power outage affecting water supply to Wanganui suburbs - 13/12/2011A power outage affecting 30% of the North Island is disrupting the water supply to some Wanganui suburbs.
The pump station at Ikitara Road currently has no power. The pump station feeds the water supply to the Bastia Hill water tower, which in turn supplies the Bastia Hill and Durie Hill areas.
A back-up booster pump at Portal Street has had power restored to it and is currently ensuring the water supply to the affected areas until the Ikitara Road station has power.
“Residents in Bastia Hill and Durie Hill will not realise that their water supply has been affected,” says Cr Ray Stevens, Chairman of the Infrastructure and Property Committee.
“Water consumption is not particularly high at this time of year but I would encourage people to practice sensible water use – which is good advice at all times.”
It is hoped that power to the Ikitara Road pumping station will be restored by early
evening.
The power outage has also affected the water supply to Fordell and Maxwell.
