Civil Defence update 2 - 1.00pm, 3 March 2012 - 3/03/2012

Water supply
Power has been restored to the Ikitara Road pump which feeds the Bastia Hill water tower. Residents of Bastia Hill and Durie Hill no longer need to conserve water. Restoring power to the Kai Iwi pump station is now a priority.

Wastewater
Power outages to pump stations have resulted in sewage flowing directly into the Whanganui River. Residents are advised not to swim in the Whanganui River in the next few days. Beaches and streams may also be affected so caution is advised. Streams at Mowhanau should also be avoided.

Roads closed by fallen trees
Brunswick Road (likely to remain closed until Sunday, March 4)
Tokomaru East Road
Rangitatau East Road

Roads previously closed by fallen trees are now open but drivers should exercise caution as many are single lane only.

Power
Power outages are being located and prioritised. Power is still out to a number of areas.

Fire Service
The Fire Service requests that all calls for Wanganui be directed to 111 so they can be prioritised.

Clean up
The district is covered with debris and contractors will work throughout the weekend and the coming week to clear it.

Emergency Operations Centre
The Emergency Operations Centre will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend. No further updates will be issued unless there are any major new issues.
