Local schools supporting TechEx 2012 - 4/07/2012300 local school children will be among the first visitors to TechEx – Wanganui’s technology exhibition at the War Memorial Centre from July 20-22.
The children from 10 Wanganui primary and intermediate schools will attend a special education focussed session, with speakers Yvonne Blanche from 3P Learning and Glen Cameron from NEC.
3P Learning is the New Zealand company which developed the successful and popular Mathletics programme which is used by students worldwide. Glen from NEC will introduce PaPeRo, a prototype robot developed to investigate the relationship between people and robots.
The students will also visit the TechEx exhibitors including a special mini computer clubhouse, 3D printing and FaceMe. There will also be the chance to experience the night sky in the Cosmodome and find out about how some businesses use technology.
“It will be great to start off TechEx with our younger generation,” says Mayor Annette Main, Chair of Wanganui’s Digital Leaders Forum.
“Many of our schools are embracing these new technologies and ultrafast broadband will give schools many different learning opportunities.”

Schools attending TechEx are Aranui School, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Tupoho, Gonville School, Carlton School, Keith Street School, Wanganui East School, Wanganui Intermediate School, St Georges School, Tawhero School, Durie Hill School and St Marcellin School.
TechEx is being held at the War Memorial Centre on Friday, July 20, from 10.00am to 5.00pm and Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22 from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Entry is free and open to everyone.
