Wilson relocation to Wanganui Prison an ‘arrogant move’ - 26/08/2012

The news that Stewart Murray Wilson has been moved to Wanganui Prison ahead of his release this week has been met with concern by Mayor Annette Main.

Mayor Main was informed of the move by telephone late on Saturday afternoon.

“Whilst I understand that preparations must be made for a prisoner to be released, the fact that this man has been moved to our district ahead of the hearing in the High Court on Monday is not welcome news and I believe highly unusual,” says Mayor Main.

“Council’s Judicial Review hearing is taking place on Monday and we will have our opportunity to state our concerns about the processes undertaken by the Parole Board and Corrections Department when choosing Wilson’s location on release.

“We have put the genuine concerns of our community at the heart of our decision to pursue legal action and we will have our chance tomorrow to have those concerns heard at the highest level.”

Mayor Annette Main will be attending the hearing at the High Court Wellington. Council is represented by Kensington Swan.
