Skate Park redevelopment nearly completed - 28/09/2012

“Wanganui’s youth can look forward to the completion of the newly developed skate bowl at Kowhai Park by the middle of next week,” says Cr Jack Bullock, Chair of the Council’s Youth Committee.

Work started to upgrade the skate park at the end of August as part of a joint project between the Youth Committee and Council’s Parks team.

The work is being carried out by locally based skate park design company ‘Custom Skate Parks’ who design and construct skate parks around New Zealand.

The upgrade includes creating a ‘pyramid’ jump – a new component to the current design. The half-pipe is also being replaced as the general wear and tear on the existing one means it is beyond repair.

“We had hoped the work would be completed for the start of the school holidays but there’s been a short delay due to the weather.

“The redeveloped skate park area will be great for our young people and offer new challenges for skateboarders and scooter riders.

“We’ve been told that all of the work will be finished by the end of Wednesday which will give our young people plenty of time to enjoy the new developments during the school holidays.”
