Wanganui Collegiate School integration ‘good for Wanganui’ - 2/11/2012Mayor Annette Main has welcomed today’s announcement that Wanganui Collegiate School will be integrated into the state school system.
“The Government has made the right decision and I am delighted that the future of Wanganui Collegiate School has been secured,” says Mayor Main.
“Wanganui Collegiate School has been part of our city for more than 150 years and the decision will enable the influence this school has had in educating many of New Zealand's leaders across many sectors to continue.
“We know that having a choice of educational institutions is something which people consider when looking to move to Wanganui. Retaining Collegiate means that we are still able to offer that breadth of choice, which many other provincial centre’s offer, as well as all the other fantastic lifestyle benefits our district has.
“Wanganui Collegiate School has a positive impact on the reputation of Wanganui and the significant benefits which flow through our economy are obvious. Many of our innovative and high quality local businesses receive significant income from the work generated by having Wanganui Collegiate School in our town.
“The school also provides a venue for conferences and events, including the New Zealand Opera School, which all bring visitors to our district and boost our local businesses.
“I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the Whanganui College Board of Trustees and Chester Borrows MP in securing the future of this institution.”
