We've had a huge week! - 29/06/2005by Deputy Mayor Dot McKinnon
It has been a huge week at Council. We have concluded the annual planning process – with some hearty discussion on parking charges, cemetery charges, Cooks Gardens, Castlecliff Beach sand, the Upokongaro jetty and more. Submissions by members of the public were well researched and well received. I congratulate the submitters on taking the time to put their views in the public arena.
Wanganui Inc is full steam ahead. This will be a joint public/private business model to promote economic development and tourism in our region.
I was delighted to attend the annual inspection of the St Johns Ambulance volunteers at the Salvation Army Citadel on Sunday. This selfless group of people provide an amazing service to Wanganui. I applaud the work they do in our community.
Welcoming the RSA Indoor Bowls Tournament participants to Wanganui was another enjoyable occasion last weekend. Congratulations to the RSA for its encouragement of events in our city.
And the Barmy Army (or at least some British visitors) are in town this week. They are really enjoying their tour of New Zealand. Make them welcome.
Now that the Code of Conduct investigation has been concluded, I hope our community can move on and work together to make this district a better place to live. |
