Youth Committee elects deputy chairs - 5/05/2006

Two of Wanganui's Youth Committee members are taking on extra responsibilities after being elected as deputy chairs of the committee.

Kirsti Parkes and Christopher Ross were elected by their fellow committee members to be deputy co-chairs. The committee is co-chaired by Mayor Michael Laws and Cr Sue Pepperell.

"It is fantastic to see Kirsti and Chris stepping up as leaders of the committee," Cr Pepperell said.

"The aim is to involve the committee members more in the whole process, from coming up with ideas for discussion to working on projects. Now that deputies have been appointed, they will be closely involved in putting together agendas for meetings after liaising with their peers and will eventually move on to chairing the committee meetings."

Kirsti Parkes is a 22-year-old youth leader and mother. She is very involved in church activities and works closely with young people. Kirsti's profile

Christopher Ross, 17, is in his final year at Wanganui High School. He is a keen sportsman and is keen to develop more activities, events and meeting places for Wanganui's young people to be involved in. Christopher's profile
