Civil Defence - further update on Ngaturi Bridge - 9/07/2006

Wanganui Civil Defence now advises that alternative access to Mangamahu via a private farm road is too dangerous and as a result this route has been closed.

Engineers who have just returned from inspecting the damage say that the track is very muddy, slippery and dangerous and is only suitable for tracked road works machines that are being used to clear slips in the area.

The Ngaturi Bridge collapsed into the Mangawhero River at about 9.00 this morning isolating the farming community of Mangamahu.
