Mayor welcomes new Wanganui branding - 30/11/2006

Mayor Michael Laws today welcomed the launch of a new brand for the Wanganui district, the council and associated organisations.

"It is exciting to have a new logo that everyone in Wanganui can relate to and that is immediately recognisable as representing Wanganui," Mr Laws said.

"It reflects the values and heritage of our community, as well as incorporating Wanganui's most identifiable asset – the river. The tag line 'welcome home' works on many levels. For those of us who live here, Wanganui is home and the place we have chosen to live. It also has meaning for those who return to Wanganui to visit or to live, as well being inclusive for people who are visiting our district for the first time.

"The new council logo is part of a 'family' of branding for the district, the council and our associated organisations. Consistency of branding will assist in its recognition outside Wanganui and also make it a brand that Wanganui people can be proud of.

"We now also have new brands for tourism and events. 'Discovery is the adventure' is a great tag line for tourism, while the new events logo focuses on celebrating Wanganui.

"The council will be using its new logo on all of its day-to-day, operational work. We will retain the council crest for very formal documents and occasions, giving the coat of arms the status that it deserves."
