Cemeteries

Wanganui’s cemeteries are located in attractive park-like settings which family and friends can visit to remember loved ones.

The main cemetery in current use is Aramoho Cemetery which covers nearly 19 hectares. There are also cemeteries at Brunswick, Heads Road, Matarawa and Maxwell.

Aramoho Cemetery provides:

  • Standard lawn, cremation lawn, children’s lawn, stillborn area, returned services lawn, Muslim burial area and facilities. There are pre-placed beams for headstones. The Council does not maintain the graves and headstones but ensures that graves are kept free of weeds and grass, with grounds kept litter free.
  • Rose garden for cremation ashes.
  • Burial and cremation service, including chapel.
  • Access and parking areas, seats, tap water for flowers, shade trees and hedges.
  • Book of Remembrance – available for viewing between 8am and 4.30pm weekdays at Aramoho Crematorium or by appointment through the Sexton.
